Everything you need to know about cold mix asphalt — application, coverage, pricing and delivery.
Product Questions
Cold mix asphalt combines aggregate (stone and sand) with a polymer-modified bitumen emulsion that stays workable at ambient temperatures. Unlike hot mix, it needs no plant, no heating, no specialist equipment — pour from the bag, compact, done.
When properly applied to a clean, firm base, cold mix asphalt provides a permanent repair. The polymer-modified binder bonds strongly to both asphalt and concrete. Repairs routinely last 5+ years under normal traffic. The product significantly outlasts temporary patching solutions.
12+ months in a sealed, undamaged bag. Store in a cool, dry location out of direct sunlight. Once opened, use within 24 hours for best results. Do not allow the product to freeze.
Cold mix asphalt bonds effectively to existing asphalt and concrete surfaces. It can also be used for utility trench reinstatement in granular sub-bases. It should not be applied to unprepared soil, vegetation or loose material.
Yes. Our cold mix asphalt is formulated to comply with SABS/SANS standards for road repair materials. We provide product data sheets and test certificates for engineering and municipal procurement requirements.
Application Questions
Yes — this is one of cold mix's biggest advantages. Our formula is designed to displace water and bond directly to wet surfaces. You can pour it directly into a water-filled pothole. No drying, no primer, no tack coat needed.
One 25kg bag covers approximately 0.5m² at 50mm compacted depth. Measure your pothole (length × width in metres), divide by 0.5 for bags needed at 50mm. For deeper holes, scale proportionally. Use the coverage calculator on the Products page for exact quantities.
No. You need no mixing equipment, no heating equipment and no specialist compaction tools. Clean the hole, pour the bag contents, spread with a spade if needed, drive a vehicle over it to compact. Any crew member can do it safely.
Immediately after compaction. There is no curing period required. Drive over the repair or open the road to traffic as soon as you have compacted the material. Perfect for emergency repairs where road closure is costly.
Fill in layers of approximately 50mm. Pour the first layer, compact it by driving a vehicle over it, then add the next layer and compact again. This ensures maximum density and strength through the full depth of the repair.
